Spin quantization ambiguity of the SU(2) (two-flavor) Skyrmion is reexamined by exploiting its analogy to the top, as a mechanical model of spin. The Skyrme model is considered to be an idealization of a {ital linear} {sigma} model, analogous to the idealization made when representing a top as a rigid body. The soliton of the linear {sigma} model is not topologically, but rather {ital energetically} stable. It is shown that, in the absence of fermions, it must be quantized as an integer-spin object. It is also shown that the half-integer spin of the considered soliton arises from vacuum fluctuations of only up and down quarks; i.e., there is no need of introducing the third flavor.
