Transversely excited waveguide HCN laser with uv preionization

In order to obtain high-power submillimeter-wave pulses, uv preionization was applied to the transverse discharges in HCN-laser gas mixtures. Homogeneous discharges were obtained at pressures up to 1 atm. An increase of laser output and working pressure was achieved for the 337-..mu..m emission.
