Initial sulfidation kinetics for iron in H/sub 2//H/sub 2/S mixtures

The initial rate of reaction of iron in hydrogen sulfide/hydrogen/ argon mixtures at 900/sup 0/C is characterized by two behavioral subregions. The first, less apparent at higher H/sub 2//H/sub 2/ ratios, is one of increasing reaction rate attributable to delayed scale nucleation or lateral island growth. The second is of slowly decreasing reaction rate under joint control of diffusion and a linear process, e.g., recrystallization.
