Platform technology extends gulf action - producing offshore

Journal Article · · Hart`s Oil and Gas World

Newer, more economic platforms raise the economic attractivenes of offshore projects and offer lower upfront costs to budget-minded operators. The past two years have seen a resurgence of interest in exploration and production activity in the Gulf of Mexico for both majors and non-majors. Technological advances reduce the risk and the cost of offshore production and enable producers to cost-effectively operate in deeper waters. Like the majors, independent companies explore and develop in deeper water and find it very profitable to do so. They are following the majors further and further out in the Gulf. Key to the reduced risk and cost of Gulf production has been the development of more efficient and cost-effective offshore platform technology. Advanced platform technology is enabling producers to go deeper and deeper into the Gulf of Mexico.
