Approximate analysis of nonlinear operation of a distributed feedback laser with parasitic losses
An approximate method for the analysis of distributed feedback lasers with parasitic losses is presented. Symmetric index grating structures with and without end reflectors are investigated. Characteristics of laser operation are obtained with the help of expressions relating the normalized small signal coefficient ..cap alpha../sub 0//sub N/ L with the output power P/sub N//sub out/ normalized to the saturation power P/sub s/, normalized loss coefficient ..cap alpha../sub NL/L, normalized coupling coefficient chemically bondkappachemically bondL, complex reflectivity of the end reflectors R-script, and the laser length L. The results are found to be in good agreement with published computer solutions
