Co/Pt and Co/Pd ultrathin multilayered films as new magneto-optical recording materials

Co/Pt and Co/Pd multilayer films were prepared by magnetron type sputtering. Both multilayer films exhibited perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. When the film thickness t/sub f/ becomes below 1000A asn enhancement of the Kerr rotation angle, an increase of the Kerr remanence to saturation ratio, and an increase of the coercive force were observed. These properties are quite suitable for magneto-optic recording materials and the possible origins are discussed.
