OSTI ID:5302612

An international conference on boiler tube failures (BTF) in fossil plants was conducted on November 5--7, 1991, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in La Jolla, California. The objectives of the conference were to review, document and transfer technology on all aspects of BTF. To meet these objectives, papers and presentations were provided on the following topics: general overview of BTF around the world; corrosion fatigue in waterwalls of drum units; thermal fatigue in supercritical waterwalls; superheater/reheater failures; flyash erosion; waterwall mechanisms; life assessment; NDE; BTF in the USSR; predictive/maintenance planning; waterside mechanisms; BTF reduction programs. Each topic was discussed in a separate conference session. Discussions followed each paper and are included in the proceedings. A questionaire was completed by the attendees on BTF and the remaining needs for research and development, the results are provided in Appendix A.
