Biomass gasification--generating energy from domestic waste products--has been the object of renewed interest in light of the energy crises of the past 20 to 25 years. This paper summarizes data from a four-year biomass monitoring program (1986-90) that covered the performance, economics, safety, and public acceptability of biomass gasifiers in Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean.
