Investigation of frequency difference stabilization of stress birefringence dual frequency lasers
- Tsinghua Univ., Beijing (China). Dept. of Precision Instruments
This paper introduces a new method for both producing and stabilizing the frequency difference of a HeNe birefringence dual frequency laser, which employs a PZT to press the intracavity quartz crystal plate according to the difference between objective beat frequency and output beat frequency of the laser. A Zeeman effect double frequency laser has been used widely in double frequency interferometers and laser Doppler velocimeters. In a Zeeman laser the frequency difference is produced both by Zeeman splitting and longitudinal mode frequency drawing. The amount of frequency difference is 1.5 MHz, that is, 2 {times} 10{sup {minus}3} times as much as frequency splitting produced by the Zeeman effect. It is not difficult to prove that to obtain a large frequency difference is impossible.
