Steam gasification of wood in a multi-solid fluidized-bed (msfb)gasifier

Book ·
OSTI ID:5295164
Initial results of wood gasification in a MSFB gasifier are presented. The gasifier consists of a dense-phase fluidized bed into which wood and steam are fed. Heat for steam gasification is provided by the circulation of an entrained sand phase through the dense phase. Gasified wood chips are entrained out of the dense phase with the sand and into a separate fluidized bed in which they are burned. C conversions of 70% were achieved at specific feed rates of greater than 1000 lb (dry)/h-squared feet. The product gas has a heating value typically of 475-500 Btu/cubic feet and contains negligible tars. The effects of important process parameters are discussed.
