Vertical dip longwalling in France

A study of longwall coal mining techniques in France is presented. Specifically, methods of mining steep and semi-steep dipping seams are outlined. The specifications, operation, maintenance, and safety features of the equipment are discussed. It is concluded that up to 1500 tons per day are possible from mines employing the methods described.
