Elevated temperature testing of mobility control reagents
The viscosity stability behavior of dilute aqueous polymer solutions was studied at temperatures up to 150/sup 0/C. It was shown that performance was testmethod dependent if necessary precautions were not taken. Suitable procedures are described. In the absence of significant quantities of oxygen (ca. 1 ppb residual) polyacrylamides were found to be stable for many months, with or without addition of chemical scavenging agents, and they gave an incremental viscosity response in low to medium salinity waters. The performance of biopolymers was found to be dependent upon source. All polymers studied exhibited degradation in the presence of air. The use of stabilizers greatly retarded viscosity loss under these conditions.
