Hydrocarbon oils are used as plasticizers in rubber. Three types of petroleum stocks are involved: aromatic, paraffinic, and naphthenic oils. There was in 1977 a serious shortage of process oils of all types. The underlying causes for that shortage are reviewed and a forecast of the future situation presented. (DLC)
