This patent describes a method of changing the direction of drilling a well bore. It comprises: placing a slurry of hydraulic cement in water in the well bore at a location therein where the direction of drilling is to be changed and in an amount sufficient to form a plug therein; allowing the slurry to set into a rigid plug in the well bore; drilling a pilot hole in the cement plug in the desired new direction of drilling; continuing the drilling of the wellbore by way of the pilot hole in the cement plug; and wherein the slurry is comprised of a mixture of water and the hydraulic cement in the ratio of from about 0.5 to about 5.0 pounds of water per pound of cement, the particle size of the hydraulic cement is not greater than about 30 microns, and the Blaine Fineness of the hydraulic cement is no less than about 6,000 square centimeters per gram.
