Economic analysis of neutral-solvents production

The products of neutral solvents fermentations, which can include l-butanol, acetone, 2-propanol, and ethanol, form a strongly interacting partially water miscible multicomponent system. We developed the parameters to permit modelling of this system's distillation using Prausnitz's modified UNIQUAC algorithm in the ASPEN simulation program. Separations energy and capital costs were then calculated.
