A system of ultraviolet absorption lines has been used to determine the /sup 12/CO//sup 13/CO abundance ratio toward zeta Ophiuchi as well as certain physical properties of the interstellar material. The Copernicus and International Ultraviolet Explorer observations imply a rather low CO isotope ratio of 55 +- 11 and a /sup 12/CO column density of 2.4 +- 0.3 x 10/sup 15/ cm/sup -2/. Further analysis implies a rather small velocity dispersion of 0.46 +- 0.15 km s/sup -1/ and a kinetic temperature in excess of 70 K.
