The survey is intended to provide basic descriptive material related to the structure of the petroleum industry. The survey requested information from 89 companies in the petroleum industry regarding directorate affiliations; acquisitions and mergers; ownership; subsidiary holdings; association with legal, accounting and financial groups; joint activities in oil and gas exploration; production, refining, and transportation; marketing; and operations in coal and uranium. The questionnaire and a discussion of methodology are in Appendix A; 63 companies--including the 20 largest--responded. These companies, as well as those not responding, are described in Appendix B. The survey includes approximately 3 million data entries.
