This volume documents how estimates of consumption in the chemical industry were derived. The chemical industry consumed the most energy within the manufacturing sector, using 5.2 quads in 1974. Outside of feedstock consumption, the majority of energy is used for process steam. Significant amounts are also consumed for direct heat, machine drive, electricity generation, and electrolytic processes. Data are summarized on quality codes and computer programs. (MCW)
