An innovative single completion design with Y block and electrical submersible pump

This paper describes an effective well completion program initiated in three recently developed fields in the Northwest Java Sea. Since these fields are comprised of many reservoirs, in order to obtain optimum production and operational flexibility at minimal cost, an innovative downhole completion system has been implemented. Depending on the number of reservoirs per well, as many as five seal bore retrievable packers have been set in a well and then individually tested ensuring isolation. This system allows for: selective perforating of different reservoirs; isolating, acidizing, testing and monitoring of separate zones; producing a well by natural flow initially or by pump (ESP); commingling of zones; running pressure surveys and production logging; manipulating/eliminating watergas producing zone(s); servicing the pump as required without fluid loss to the formation; and protecting the downhole equipment from corrosive gases by continuous inhibition.
