Effect of insolation levels on the capacity of solar driven absorption chillers

This paper discusses the performance of 3-ton, 15-ton, and 25-ton absorption chillers fired by solar hot water. An important concern to manufacturers and designers of solar cooling systems is the effect of solar insolation on the chilled water output and efficiency of absorption chillers. Hourly performance factors are calculated for system energy flows. This large data base provides an opportunity to measure the effects of solar insolation on chiller output under field conditions. 7 refs.
