This patent describes an apparatus for use on a subterranean well gravel packing conduit. It comprises: a cylindrically shaped inner tubular member having an interior wall and an exterior wall; a fluid flow passageway defined within the interior wall of the tubular member; fluid flow passage means; a fluid-porous particulate-restricting means; wire mesh means disposed between the exterior wall of the tubular member and the interior of the particulate-restricting means and passing across the fluid flow passage means, and having fluid flow openings therethrough. This patent describes a method of gravel packing subterranean oil or gas well. The method comprising the steps of: introducing into the well a subterranean well conduit; placing the gravel packing apparatus adjacent a production one in the well; setting the well packer; and introducing a carrier fluid containing a particulate matter into the well conduit for placement of the particulate matter exterior of the well conduit and adjacent the production formation.
