Retrofitting electric power plants with MHD systems

This paper provides a summary of the considerations which are important when evaluating the merits of retrofitting an existing steam power plant with a magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) topping cycle. The method of retrofit integration is quite specific to each steam plant, and some steam plants are not suitable for retrofit. Retrofit is a practical option for an MHD test facility.
