Picosecond pulse generation by passive mode locking of diode lasers

We report the generation of pulses as short as 5 psec in duration by passive mode locking of a modified strip buried heterostructure GaAlAs diode in an extended resonator. We also describe the effects of intercavity bandwidth control for the generation of transform-limited pulses.
