A typical composite catalyst contains a REY zeolite distributed in a matrix of amorphous silica-alumina. For each component separately and for the composite catalyst, the authors followed the relationship between catalytic activity and coke level using a TGA operating as a pulse microreactor with on-line integral GC. Hexadecane was used as the feed. Acidity levels of untreated, steamed-fresh and steamed-coked catalysts were obtained by ammonia chemisorption. These measurements also were made using each component separately and using the composite catalyst. A Partitioned-Flow Model is the simplest acceptable model of the component interaction. It is described in this book.
