Discharge tube for a gas laser

A discharge tube for a gas laser is described comprising: (a) an elongated cylindrical tube having an inner wall and an axis; (b) annular heat-conduction members spaced apart along the cylindrical tube and about the axis, each of the heat-conduction members having an outer perimeter near the inner wall and at least one gas-flow return hole near the outer perimeter, each of the annular heat conduction members defining a volume within the outer perimeter; and (c) blocking means for maintaining gas near the inner wall to flow through each gas-flow return hole, the plurality of blocking means being positioned, respectively, in the space between adjacent the heat conduction members and outside the volume of the adjacent heat-conduction members, and each blocking means being unattached to either of the adjacent heat-conduction members.
