Transient thermal analysis of phase change thermal energy storage systems with internal longitudinal fins of different geometries

An analytical model was developed to evaluate the effects of internal longitudinal fins of different fin cross-sections on the rate of solidification/melting in an energy storage system that uses phase change material. Numerical results using the model were obtained for both systems with and without internal fins. The results show that addition of internal fins improve the rate of solidification. 12 refs.
