Impurity instabilities in tokamaks

Impurity instabilities in a tokamak are analyzed. Two types of impurity instabilities due to trapped ions are studied. These instabilities are shown to be relatively insensitive to the shear, so that for certain values of the plasma properties these instabilities may be pertinent to the study of the impurity dynamics in tokamaks.
