We have been developing a portable neutron spectrometer based on liquid scintillator detector that is capable of measuring fast neutron spectra in the range of 0.5 to 16 MeV. These spectral data are needed for the calibration of neutron dosimeters and calculation of fluence-to-dose conversion factors. Recent development of low-power integrated circuits and the availability of powerful low-cost computers combine to make possible the development of a truly portable instrument. The complete spectrometer will consist of the spectrometer head, which is described in this report, a separate battery pack, and a laptop computer with the appropriate interface to the spectrometer head.
