Establishment, succession, and stability of vegetation on surface mined lands in eastern Montana. Annual progress report, June 1, 1975--February 29, 1976

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5269931
An ecological investigation of reclamation and plant succession on stripmined lands near Colstrip, Montana, was initiated in July, 1975. The purpose of the study is to investigate and document the permanence and stability of plant communities established on lands mined since 1923. Nine fenced exclosures on 1 to 8 year old reclamation plantings and on 44 to 53 year old naturally revegetated coal spoils were established in the fall of 1975. Initial plant species lists and plant collections were prepared at each site. Transects were set up within the exclosures for analyses of a number of plant population parameters. A variety of equipment and materials for sampling was acquired. A review of pertinant literature was begun.
