Deflagration-front structure in a degenerate carbon core

The nuclear-reaction kinetics in the density range rho/sub 0/ = 10/sup 7/--10/sup 9/ g/cm/sup 3/ at constant pressure is analyzed to provide the structure of the nonsteady deflagration front in an exploding C--O stellar core. If rho/sub 0/>rho/sub e/roughly-equal5x10/sup 7/ g/cm/sup 3/, the combustion of C/sup 12/ will culminate in nuclear statistical equilibrium. At low densities the burning products will be nuclides having A< or =30. The applicability of an approximate nuclear-kinetics description is discussed.
