A method is described of mounting a cutter device, having a stud portion defining one end thereof and a cutting formation generally adjacent the other end, in a pocket in a drill bit body member. The method consists of: forming channel means extending into the pocket by inserting a channel member in the pocket adjacent a side wall thereof; inserting brazing material into the channel means; inserting the stud portion of the cutter device into the pocket; then heating the bit body member to cause the brazing material to flow through the channel means into the pocket; then re-cooling the bit body member.
