Lowest Landau excited states of a hydrogen atom in magnetic fields up to 4. 7 x 10/sup 12/ gauss

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. A; (United States)
Autoionization widths and energies of the lowest-lying Landau excited states of a hydrogen atom in strong magnetic fields are calculated for azimuthal quantum numbers 0, 1, and 2. For fields ranging from below 10/sup 9/ G, where these states lie close to the ionization threshold, up to 4.7 x 10/sup 12/ G, the width of the lowest autoionizing state in each m subspace is, to within the accuracy of the calculation, inversely proportional to the fourth root of the field strength. A comparison with radiative widths is made.
