Crude oil production is improved by injecting into the producing well from about 0.5 to about 10 bbl of a water-external micellar dispersion per vertical foot of oil-bearing sand and then injecting sufficient crude oil into the sand to displace the micellar dispersion out into the reservoir. Such a process improves the relative permeability to crude oil in the area immediately adjacent to the well bore. (16 claims)
