Optimization of FCC catalysts for maximum octane

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5266237
In this paper the authors discuss the impact on octane from new catalysts containing specially developed zeolites and matrices. The chemistry of cracking and how isomerization, transalkylation, and hydrogen transfer affect octane is reviewed. Experimental data is included which shows the relationship and effect of zeolite and matrix components on gasoline octane and catalyst activity. Commercial data is presented which demonstrates the benefits from optimizing FCC catalysts. Data is provided comparing the total octane barrels and products from the Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit.
