Commercial application of vanadium passivation technology

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5266214
The purpose of this paper is to present commercial experience of the Betz Process Chemicals, Inc. passivation process and to illustrate the methods used to document performance. The following key points can be made: 1) Vanadium passivation is an effective method of reducing the detrimental effects of vanadium on an FCC unit catalyst. 2) The microactivity loss due to vanadium can be reduced by 30%-50% with vanadium passivation. 3) The hydrogen and coke production due to the catalytic dehydrogenation effect of active vanadium can be reduced by approximately 65% with vanadium passivation. 4) Commercial passivation data does not appear to support a synergism between the vanadium and nickel passivation processes. 5) Appropriate chemical treatment residuals have been determined and verified in commercial FCC units and can be used to economically control chemical feedrates.
