Production of charmed particles in proton-proton collisions

The inclusive spectra and total cross sections for charmed particle production in proton-proton collisions are computed within the framework of quantum chromodynamics perturbation theory. It is shown that inclusion of third-order perturbation theory leads to a significant increase in the absolute value of the cross section, while allowance for the secondary interaction between the charmed quarks produced and the light spectator quarks leads to a flat inclusive charmed-hadron spectrum.
