Lattice non-local chiral fermions

We analyze the doubling problem for chiral fermions on a hypercubic lattice. We prove that hermitian and cubic invariant chiral Lagrangians always show spectrum doubling, even in the presence of non-local interactions, thus extending the previous theorem of Nielsen and Ninomiya. In the presence of non-local derivatives we find either the breaking of Lorentz invariance or the dynamical generation through quantum corrections of spurious ghost states which make the chiral anomaly vanish and give a wrong contribution to the ..beta..-function. copyright 1988 Academic Press, Inc.
