Chronic mercurial poisoning in swine. A case report of an outbreak with some epidemiological characteristics of hog cholera

Journal Article · · Cornell Vet.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5260925

A herd of 44 adult swine and five litters of newborn piglets experienced an outbreak of fatal chronic mercurial poisoning caused by ingestion of wheat treated with a mercurial fungicide. Hog cholera was suspected because neurologic signs and petechial hemorrhages were observed, because four swine purchased at a public stockyard had recently been added to the unvaccinated herd, and because the observed onset was sudden.
