Possibility of higher order critical fields in superconducting rings

The behavior of a small superconducting ring or hollow cylinder in an axial magnetic field is studied using the nonlinear Ginzburg--Landau equations. We find that, if the radius of the cylinder is smaller than half the superconducting coherence length xi(T), a periodic alternation between the superconducting and the normal state occurs as the magnetic field is increased. This defines higher order critical magnetic fields for vanishing and reentrant superconductivity.
