The present note considers the influence of recovery processes on the response of short fiber reinforced, squeeze cast aluminum composites after creep unloading. Recovery processes reduce the amount of elastic strain which is stored in the fibers and in parallel contribute to forward creep of the MMC. After unloading, recovery processes result in a forward creep component and thus decrease the total backflow. The predictions of the aligned-fiber unit cell model in underestimate creep strain because all fibers are assumed to be aligned in the direction of the applied stress whereas, in practice, there is a random planar fiber texture. Secondly, recovery processes decrease the amount of elastic energy stored in the fibers and the resulting forward creep component is not taken into account.
