Results of this feasibility study indicate that a small scale waste-to-energy incinerator can meet the electrical power requirements of a 49 200-cu.m./d (13-mgd) wastewater treatment plant by burning municipal solid waste, while also generating revenues through the sale of excess electricity. Placing such a facility in operation would result in significant cost savings and environmental benefits in the form of stabilized wastewater treatment costs, lowered solid waste disposal costs, and decreased dependence on landfilling.
