A gas burner is described which consists of: an elongated combustion chamber defined in part by the forward surface of a fire wall; an ignition means extending through an opening in the fire wall and having one end thereof centrally positioned within the combustion chamber; the ignition means including a pilot tube and a conductive member received within the pilot tube providing means for generating ignition sparks within the pilot tube adjacent the end thereof within the combustion chamber; jet openings in the fire wall in spaced relationship around and spaced from the pilot tube; a jet member received within each jet opening and extending into the combustion chamber; a mixing chamber defined in part by the rearward surface of the fire wall, the mixing chamber having separate fuel and air inlets; a tubular partition received within the mixing chamber, one end of the tubular partition being secured to the fire wall rearward surface the pilot tube being received concentrically within the tubular partition and the jet openings communicating with the interior of the tubular partition; the fire wall having a plurality of spaced apart secondary air openings therein communicating with the mixing chamber exteriorally of the tubular partition; and a secondary air jet secured to the fire wall within the combustion chamber in communication with the secondary air openings, each secondary air jet including means to discharge air into the combustion chamber in directions tangent to the longitudinal axis of the combustion chamber.
