Two-dimensional crystalline phases of CF/sub 3/H adsorbed on graphite

Trifluoromethane, CF/sub 3/H, adsorbed on the (001) faces of exfoliated graphite has been studied by x-ray diffraction. An orientationally disordered, triangular, incommensurate high-temperature and an orientationally ordered low-temperature phase have been observed. In the low-temperature phase the molecules show staggered orientations;the lattice is uniaxially compressed. The coverage-temperature phase diagram has been derived.
