The pressure dependence of the structural transition temperature T/sub S/ of a high-quality melted EuMo/sub 6/S/sub 8/ sample was determined from electrical resistivity measurements under nearly hydrostatic pressure. Applied pressure depresses T/sub S/ rapidly from 109 K at zero pressure to zero just below 13 kbar. The disappearance of the structural transition is accompanied by the sudden appearance of a superconducting transition with a critical temperature T/sub c/ = 12.2 K at 13.2 kbar. Specific heat measurements demonstrate that the pressure-induced superconductivity of EuMo/sub 6/S/sub 8/ is a bulk phenomenon.
