The John Deere Dubuque Works is a proposed National Priorities List site located north of Dubuque, Dubuque County, Iowa. Because of past disposal practices, the site has numerous sources of contamination. Site contaminants consist of various volatile organic compounds (VOCs), heavy metals, and various other inorganic contaminants. Heavy metals and various other inorganic contaminants, as well as VOCs have been identified in on-site ground water. Heavy metals have been found in on-site surface soils. The site is of potential public health concern because of the risk to human health resulting from possible exposure to hazardous substances at concentrations that may result in adverse human health effects. Human exposure to contaminants in on-site and off-site ground water may occur, or be occurring, and may have occurred in the past via oral, dermal and inhalation exposure of on-site ground-water contamination (e.g., metals and VOCs) at levels of concern to human health.
