This paper reviews developments by a number of non-Soviet manufacturers in resistance furnaces used for the heat treatment, carburization, nitridation, boridation, and carbonitridation of metals. Manufacturers located in Sweden, Great Britain, Japan, Switzerland, and the United States are comparatively assessed, as are a variety of technologies in computerized control, enhanced energy efficiency, and waste heat utilization.
