The purpose of this work was determination of the influence of phase composition on the corrosion resistance of high-silicon steels and their weld joints. The investigations were made on steels with an austenitic structure, including niobium-stabilized (type O2Kh8N22S6) and a ferritic-austenitic (type 10Kh12N10S6). The experimental steels were produced by melting in the 7-kg crucible of an open induction furnace with subsequent forging and rolling into 12-mm-thick plates at 1100/sup 0/C. The weld joints were produced with the use of manual and automatic argon-arc welding with the use of fillers with the same composition as the base metal. The metallographic investigations of the steels were made on a microscope and the microhardness of the structural constituents was determined. The chemical composition of the phases was determined on a microanalyzer. The tendency of the steels toward intergranular corrosion was investigated.
