Domain formation characteristics during thermomagnetic recording for amorphous TbFe and TbFeCo alloy thin films

Configurational characteristics of thermomagnetically written domains under a static laser irradiation condition in amorphous TbFe and TbFeCo films were observed by using polarizing microscope. The shape of domains is categorized into 3 distinctly different types. It is confirmed that the domain configurations were mainly determined by which one was dominant controlling factor between the demagnetizing and domain wall energy at elevated temperatures in thermomagnetic recording process.
