Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5248224
Guidance is provided for retrofitting homes with passive solar heating systems. The information presented is kept simple enough to address the homeowner with no technical background. Systems described include direct gain, Trombe wall, and sunspace systems. Information is given which allows the user to make educated decisions about the various factors involved in retrofitting, and the state of the art is presented in the form of simple rule of thumb procedures and building details such that passive solar components can be fashioned using readily available local materials and common hand tools. Many common products are described that go into passive solar systems, with information provided on sizes, weights and other physical properties as well as descriptions, comparative cost guides and lists of the manufacturers.
