Diffraction investigations with Kumakhov lenses
- Inst. for Roentgen Optics, Moscow (Russian Federation)
Diffraction methods play an important role in different scientific and applied investigations. When crystal diffraction is studied x-ray beams fall upon crystal planes at Bragg angle. If an isotropic source is used only a very small part of radiation takes place in diffraction. That is due to the fact that angular width for diffraction reflection (the so called Darwin table) is very small, e.g., for perfect crystals such as Si, Ge they are about only several angular seconds. So the problem of quasiparallel x-ray beams arises. This problem can be solved to some extent by means of Kumakhov lenses. These devices allow to transform divergent radiation into quasiparallel one and (so called Kumakhov halflenses) or divergent radiation from a source is focused by means of Kumakhov lens in a small focal spot. Here, Kumakhov halflenses was used in a classical diffraction scheme. The angular divergence and transmittance of a drawn halflens are considered. The efficiency of polycapillary optics use in X-ray diffractometry is shown.
